About Gainesville
As a census-designated place in Prince William County, Gainesville is home to about 12,600 residents as of the 2007 census. Gainesville is full as history as it was an important passageway to the Bull Run Mountains during the Civil War. Today, population density is low with 451 people per square mile; however, it is a rapidly-growing area along the Gainesville Interchange. The average resident is 36 years old, married, educated, lives in a family of three, travels 36 minutes to work, and earns a family income of $82,627.
Education
Students in Gainesville are served by Prince William Public Schools, which manages 87 elementary, middle and high schools. The district operates a virtual high school, 2 traditional schools, 5 special education schools, and 2 alternative schools. The district is the 2nd-largest in Virginia with over 72,500 students enrolled in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Of all residents 25 and older, 37% have a bachelor's degree or higher. A total of 30 colleges and universities are found within a 40-mile radius of the area. Among the schools are Northern Virginia Community College, George Mason University, Strayer University with campuses in Woodbridge and Manassas, and the University of Northern Virginia at Manassas.
County Attractions
Prince William County is a lovely and historic place to reside with much to do. Among its top 10 tourist destinations is the Potomac Mills, the region's largest outlet mall. Also on the list is the area's largest National Park Service property. The 15,000-acre Prince William Forest Park features much untouched history and nature. The Park offers a variety of opportunities for outdoor recreation as well as many points of interests for history education in the area's culture. A major concert venue in the county is the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow. The stage was erected in 1995 and has since hosted major performers such as Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Godsmack, Tom Petty, Jimmy Buffet and several other big names.
